The National Year of Reading is a celebration of all things to do with reading. But it’s not only that. So we’re delving deeper…
#Escape to somewhere you never knew existed
You’ve all heard that before. But have you actually realised the potential of pictures yourself?
Here are a couple of sites to get you started:- (please note, I do not personally endorse these sites)
#Escape to an alternative world
Alternative history novels are a great way to escape. Jean M. Auel’s Earth Children series, the final novel released late last year, could be the answer to all your questions. What could life be like ?
Dystopian novels, the latest hit in Young Adult reading, are running off the shelf. Haven’t yet caught on to the craze? Start with Orwell’s 1984, Murakami’s 1Q84 then type back here and ask for more.
#Escape into someone’s life
Fancy dipping your shoes into Richard Branson’s life? Or finding out about the man who made ‘i’ the most famous letter on the planet? It’s time, everyone, to escape your own life, even if it’s only an hour a week. Biographies and autobiographies are a great way to learn and gain inspiration.
#Escape into the future
Never liked Science Fiction? It’s not for everyone, but give it a second chance. Everyone loves to predict the future, but not so much as Douglas Adams in The Hitch-hiker’s guide to the galaxy.
Want more? We know you do, so check back here later this week for a stash of titles to sink your head into (and while you’re at it, we’ll fly you off on a whole new adventure — you’re excited aren’t you).
